Risk acceptance can be a formal decision to accept the residual risk or it can be a passive decision in which residual risks are not specified. For some types of harms, even the best quality risk management practices might not entirely eliminate risk.

Risk factors for HCC in persons with chronic HCV infection are largely the same as those for the development of decompensate cirrhosis. Some but not all studies suggest that treatment with interferon and repairing may reduce the risk of developing HCC in HCV patients with cirrhosis, but more data are needed.

Projects with the highest risk-adjusted expected profitability are the most likely to be financed and to succeed. The result is more rapid economic growth. Projects in the portfolio are routinely re-evaluated. Poorly performing or stovepipe projects are terminated and new initiatives are started to address capability gaps or to react to changes in Mission Area goals and objectives.

Patients could present with any clinical problem such as arthritis or depression and, despite having asthma or angina, might not wish to discuss this, even though the computerised system might suggest this was appropriate.

Given the range and complexity of problems that patients present to general practitioners it is demanding for any system to function in an unobtrusive yet helpful manner. Patients reap the benefits of more eyes and ears, the insights of different bodies of knowledge, and a wider range of skills. Thus team care has generally been embraced by most as a criterion for high quality care.
